Musk's antitrust lawsuit against OpenAI narrows: court allows Apple claims to be dropped
On September 14, 2026, Judge Mark Pittman allowed X Corp and xAI to voluntarily dismiss their lawsuit against Apple. The allegations against OpenAI of illegally monopolizing the chatbot market remain in the case.

In June 2024, Apple and OpenAI announced ChatGPT integration in iOS. In their August 2025 lawsuit, X Corp and xAI called it the only built-in generative AI chatbot integration on iPhone and sought billions of dollars in damages.
The new boundary. Apple now leaves the case, while the allegation against OpenAI remains. For ChatGPT, the legal dispute has narrowed to the question of OpenAI's position in the chatbot market.
The case against OpenAI will continue without Apple.
