Open-source project maintainers to receive more Codex grants: total rises to 10,000
On September 15, 2026, OpenAI resumed Codex for OSS and increased the number of grants from 5,000 to 10,000. Selected maintainers will receive 6 months of $100 ChatGPT Pro with Codex, contingent access to Codex Security, and API credits for PR review, maintenance automation, and releases.

Six months ago, OpenAI launched Codex for OSS with 5,000 grants. The program is now designed for 10,000 maintainers, and you can apply for your own project or nominate another maintainer. **The application is brief.** You need a public GitHub username, a repository URL, your role as a primary or core maintainer, and an explanation of the project's significance of up to 500 characters. You also provide an OpenAI Organization ID and a plan for using API credits of up to 500 characters.
OpenAI reviews applications on a rolling basis and notifies selected maintainers by email.
