AI pricing for code has dropped: GPT-6 Sol and Luna are 50% cheaper than GPT-5.6
On Sep 24, OpenAI cut GPT-6 Sol and Luna API prices by 50% versus GPT-5.6 promotional pricing. GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 per 1 million input tokens and $0.50 per 1 million output tokens. Sol and Luna are gradually rolling out across the API, Codex, and ChatGPT.
GPT-5.6 Luna was previously the core model for Free and Go, with unlimited text chats. GPT-6 Luna now offers 1.05 million context tokens and up to 128 thousand tokens per response: a single request can fit an average novel or a large repository.
In the app. OpenAI is gradually rolling out the models in ChatGPT and Codex. Free and Go receive GPT-6 Luna only in the desktop app, available for macOS and Windows.
GPT-6 Luna remains unavailable on the free API tier, while Tier 1 gets a limit of 500 requests per minute and 500 thousand tokens per minute.
