Claude Code Creator Wrote a TypeScript Textbook: The Book Was Published in 2019
In May 2019, Boris Cherny published the 322-page Programming TypeScript. At Anthropic, Cherny created Claude Code. The book is aimed at intermediate and advanced readers.

Wow, I was going through old books and found the textbook I used to brush up on TypeScript in 2019. And I saw all the passages I had highlighted. It was written by some developer I did not know, but I remember the book being really good. That "developer I did not know" is @bcherny 🙃

In 2019, Programming TypeScript was a language textbook. Now it is also an early work by the person who created Claude Code at Anthropic.
Still practical. The book covers migrating a JavaScript project to TypeScript, frameworks for the frontend and backend, and deploying an application to production.
As of Sep 25, 2026, Cherny's public GitHub repository contains the official exercise answers and 21 commits.
