GitHub Copilot features will turn on automatically: policy changes Oct 22
On Oct 22, GitHub will enable GA Copilot features without explicit configuration. Until then, administrators can set a policy for Business and Enterprise.
Previously, unconfigured GitHub Copilot features had no overarching policy. GitHub will now apply the selected rule to those features and enable them by default.
Administrators open AI Controls → Copilot and choose Enabled, Disabled, or Let organizations decide. GitHub will not change explicitly configured enablement or disablement, while preview features will remain available only through separate selection.
A 28-day configuration window runs until Oct 22, and the selected policy does not yet change user access.
