Oracle fixes outages in minutes: Codex picks the instructions for engineers
Oracle turns specialist knowledge into repeatable tasks for ChatGPT Work and Codex.

According to OpenAI on Oct 8, Oracle resolves a simple production issue in minutes instead of 1 hour. Codex gathers context and finds the instructions the on-call engineer needs.
Oracle uses the same approach for queries about internal data. The company has documented its business entities, relationships and rules, and Codex turns a user's question into SQL and returns an analysis, report or application.
Richard Lam, head of Oracle Applications Lab, described a user who received an answer almost immediately instead of spending a couple of hours on manual work. Checking it the old way produced the same numbers.
Hiring research. Recruiters previously spent 2β4 days on research. Now a tool built on ChatGPT Work prepares it in 15β20 minutes, and OpenAI estimates a 98% reduction in research time.
The tool takes a job description and researches comparable roles. It compares salaries and assesses candidate availability across locations.
Getting started. According to OpenAI's documentation as of Oct 8, how you get started depends on the task:
- For ChatGPT Work, open chatgpt.com, sign in and select Work in a new chat. Add your goal, files and context. - For Codex with a local project, install the ChatGPT desktop app, sign in and open the project folder. Select Codex from the ChatGPT menu. - For a Codex cloud task, select Work in β Cloud β Select environment β Create environment. The agent will help set up and check the repository environment.
According to OpenAI on Oct 8, Oracle has 130,000 active ChatGPT users and more than 95,000 active Codex users.
