Samsung expects record profit amid AI boom: $80 billion in a quarter
On Oct 8, Samsung issued a preliminary estimate of 107.4 trillion won in operating profit for Q3 2026.
Samsung earned 12.17 trillion won in operating profit in Q3 2025. For the same quarter in 2026, the company forecasts 8.8 times that amount.
Growth continues. Compared with Q2, Samsung expects profit to rise by 20.01%, from 89.49 to 107.4 trillion won. The company's preliminary revenue estimate is 195 trillion won, up 126.59% year over year and 13.70% quarter over quarter.
Memory brings in the money. In Q2, the Device Solutions division earned 89.2 trillion won in operating profit. Samsung attributed its memory business's record performance to demand for AI servers and rising prices: manufacturers are earning more as demand grows for memory used in computing.
In Q2, Samsung increased sales of HBM4, memory for AI accelerators, and shipped HBM4E samples to its first major customers. For the second half of the year, the company expected demand for server memory and storage to accelerate as investment in AI infrastructure and adoption of AI agents grew, while supply remained tight.
The BBC also expects Samsung's foldable devices, released in August, to support the company's results.
107.4 trillion won remains Samsung's preliminary estimate for Q3, rather than a figure from its final earnings report.
