Barclays cuts 5,000 jobs and blames AI: 5% of its staff

Barclays has announced cuts of about 5,000 of its 93,000 employees worldwide, roughly 5% of staff. Management links the cuts to productivity gains from AI, and 1,000 roles had already gone in the first half of 2026.
