Claude Code keeps work in one project: Projects launches parallel cloud sessions
Claude Code launched Projects in public beta for some Pro and Max users on September 17, 2026. A project brings work into a single conversation, automatically splits unrelated tasks into threads, and continues them after the laptop is closed. Under pricing as of September 18, 2026, Pro costs $20 per month, while Max starts at $100 and offers 5x or 20x the usage of Pro.
Sessions had to be managed manually. Now Projects keeps work in one persistent conversation, while Claude separates unrelated tasks into threads and leaves quick questions in the main conversation.
Project memory. Each thread receives repositories, files, project instructions, and project memory. A fix saved to project memory becomes context for subsequent threads, while parallel cloud threads keep working after you close your laptop.
Getting started. In Claude Code, create a project at claude.ai/code or in the desktop app's Code tab via Projects → New project. The only required field is the name; you can add the goal and repositories later. To work with code, you need a repository on github.com, a connected GitHub account with push access, and the Claude GitHub App installed.
Pricing and availability. Projects uses the same plan limits as other Claude Code sessions. Threads in a new project run on Opus with high effort by default, but you can change the model and effort in Project settings. Parallel threads use up limits faster, Free plan users do not have access, Team and Enterprise are not yet supported, and you can join the waitlist if the feature is unavailable.
Installation. On macOS, Linux, and WSL, run the installer with `curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash`. In Windows PowerShell, use `irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex`. After installation, launch Claude Code with `claude`.
Providers. Claude Code accepts connections via API, Bedrock, Agent Platform, and Foundry. Local models are not supported. In an organization, an administrator can set models, MCP lists, versions, and enforced sign-in.
Projects remains in beta for now, with Pro and Max users receiving access gradually.
