Finnish Municipality Hands Some Management Work to AI, Saves €150 thousand
On September 19, 2026, the municipality of Humppila, with a population of about 2 thousand, abolished two management positions. The decision saved €150 thousand. Some responsibilities were handed over to AI: it helps prepare draft decisions, contracts, and tender documents.
Previously, annexes to the administrative regulations required work until autumn. Now, a language model prepared them in 1 day. Technical duties were split among several employees, while administrative responsibilities were taken on by the municipality's head, Minna Ylikännä. AI is also used for daycare schedules, but the municipality did not cut teachers or early childhood educators.
In Humppila, AI has so far taken on part of the document and planning work, not the work of teachers and early childhood educators.
