Agents work right in the notebook: Googlebook gets isolated Linux with a terminal

Previously, agents needed their own machine or server for coding. Now it is a standard feature in a laptop from $899.

What's inside. The isolated environment runs under the pKVM hypervisor: according to Google, you can install any Linux development tools there, pull repositories, open ports, and run autonomous agents. An Android app deploys to the Googlebook itself through the native Antigravity app, which also ships a Linux version.

Until now, Chromebook kept users in the browser. Googlebook runs Googlebook OS based on Android with desktop Chrome: extensions, DevTools, vertical tabs. Updates are promised for up to 10 years.

No code needed, too. Create My Widget builds a widget from a description in words, with no programming experience required. Gemini pulls data into it from the web, Gmail, and Calendar.

Magic Pointer activates with a cursor wiggle, selects the object under the pointer on its own, and sends it to the same model. Rambler takes a voice brain dump, cleans up errors, and turns what was said into action items.

How to get it. Preorders have been open since 21.09 in the Google Store, Best Buy, and select retailers. Sales start 4 October in the US and 5 October in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia — Russia is not on the launch list.

Five models are made by Acer, Dell, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo, priced from $899–1299. Inside are Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Snapdragon X Elite, an NPU above 45 TOPS, from 16 GB of memory, and up to 14 hours of video. Each machine includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5 TB of cloud storage, plus 3 months of YouTube Premium, Photoshop, and CapCut.

On 4 October, the first Googlebooks will reach buyers in the US: that is when independent speed and battery-life benchmarks will appear.
