A smartphone will be able to run AI on-device: Qualcomm chip for a 30 billion-parameter model
On September 22, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with support for local MoE models up to 30 billion parameters. The new accelerator is also designed for AI agents and context windows of up to 32,000 tokens.
Flagships previously launched on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Qualcomm now claims that Extreme Gen 6 supports local MoE models up to 30 billion parameters.
The platforms are not sold separately: the wait is for flagship Android smartphones. Motorola has already shown motorola signature 27 on Extreme Gen 6.
Motorola expects motorola signature 27 to launch globally in 2026.
