Americans are ready to hand home buying to AI: 37% accept minimal human involvement
37% of U.S. residents are ready to entrust AI with buying a home with minimal human involvement, according to a LendingTree survey of 2 001 people conducted July 2–8, 2026. 72% of respondents would choose AI for at least one home-buying or selling task.
34% of Americans used home-search websites and apps over the past 12 months. 15% chose AI — the same share as agent websites and apps; AI was most often used to compare neighborhoods, search for homes, and estimate prices.
Before the offer. LendingTree suggests delegating search narrowing, neighborhood comparisons, payment calculations, and question preparation to AI. Important details before an offer or signature should be confirmed with a lender, agent, or other specialist.
By 2036, 36% of respondents expect AI to handle most of the home-buying or selling process.
