On September 24, Elon Musk said Earth's economy is less than one trillionth the economy of a Type II civilization. In June, SpaceX revealed a goal of putting up to 100 GW of AI computing into space each year.

SpaceX's space plans used to be measured in tons of cargo. Now the company ties them to 100 GW of AI computing per year: that would require thousands of launches and about 1 million tons of cargo in orbit annually.
The first step. SpaceX expects to begin deploying orbital computing no earlier than 2028. The first satellites are expected to carry 100 kW of computing power each.
By 2028, it will be clear whether the talk of a Type II civilization turns into SpaceX's first orbital computing network.
