A video's first seconds become a testing ground: YouTube will compare up to 3 edits
On Sep 23, YouTube announced a trial of up to 3 edits of a single video. The platform will choose the winner by watch time. Previously, the feature only tested titles and thumbnails.

Since the feature officially launched in 2024, channels have run more than 40 million A/B experiments with titles and thumbnails. Now YouTube plans to compare up to three hooks or intros within a video: a large channel will find a working version faster, while a newcomer will need to shape the opening seconds more precisely.
AI is already in the editing suite. Gemini Omni has been rolling out for free in Shorts Remix and YouTube Create since May 19, 2026. In August 2026, hundreds of thousands of channels used it daily, and 72% of U.S. video creators aged 14–44 had used AI for creation or editing over the previous year.
In early 2027, Conversational editing will come to Android and iPhone: selected photos and videos will become a draft Short from a preset or custom prompt, which can be edited in chat or on the timeline.
