With Sonnet 5.5, Videos Are Built in Code: 27-Second Promo Complete with Music
On Sep 28, 2026, Peter Yang showed a 27-second Sonnet 5.5 promo made entirely with code, including the music. That same day, Anthropic released the model at $2 per 1 million input tokens, $10 per output tokens, and $0.20 for cache reads. Sonnet 5 used to respond more slowly. Anthropic says Sonnet 5.5 responds 30%+ faster and typically costs up to 30% less per task. On Terminal-Bench 4.0, the model scored 70.6%, compared with 10.3% for Sonnet 5.
Shorter builds. Across 118 real Base44 app builds, Sonnet 5.5 required an average of 3.6 iterations, versus 7.7 for Opus 5. Yang used the new model for seven videos, including product-launch videos, short clips, and an anime opening.
For Claude Code, Anthropic specifies the `npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code` command, Node.js 18+, and 4 GB of RAM. Run `claude update` to update. When moving from Sonnet without thinking, the `between_tools` setting is needed to keep pre-tool thinking disabled.
In Claude Code and Claude apps, the default effort is Medium; in Claude Platform, it is High.
In Claude Code, select the required model with the `--model` flag: use either the `sonnet` alias or the full name `claude-sonnet-5-5`.
