For illustrations in an app, a sequence of edits matters: change one detail while preserving everything that already works. Ideogram released 4.5 on Sep 30 and promises to eliminate artifact buildup during this kind of editing. The model is available in Ideogram, through the API and through launch partners.
Ideogram compares sequential edits with GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2. The company says these models introduce distortions, shift pixels and change colors after just a few steps. In Scenario's Sep 28 test, Precise Edit preserved earlier makeup and facial features through subsequent changes.
Two editing modes. In the app, simply select 4.5 in the model picker. Precise edit preserves the original dimensions and is designed to retain details outside the edited area. Generate + edit allows a more flexible reinterpretation of the image.
On the model page, Ideogram demonstrates changing the color of a bag in an image measuring 4,016 × 6,016 pixels, or 24.2 MP. The model edits a cropped section and preserves its boundaries: the result can be inserted back into the original without downscaling the entire image.
In Scenario, `model_ideogram-v4-5-precise-edit` handles targeted changes. It requires `image` and `prompt`. The instructions recommend describing the change, listing the details to preserve and setting `quality: high`.
Access and payment. According to Ideogram's Sep 30 announcement, the model offers 4 quality modes with a base resolution of 2K. Pricing ranges from $0.008 to $0.22 per image. In the app, AI editing and Image Reference use priority credits and cannot run in the slow queue once those credits run out. Plus includes 1,000 of these credits per month.
A free account is enough to use the API. On `ideogram.ai/platform`, add a payment method and top up your balance by at least $1 in Billing, then create a key through API Keys → Create key. The key is passed in the `Api-Key` header, and API usage is billed separately from the subscription.
Ideogram promises to release open weights for 4.5 soon.
