Reddit will stop serving posts via RSS: feeds shut down on Nov 13
Reddit's public API will also close: the company will move apps and bots to Devvit by March 2027.
Reddit will disable RSS on Nov 13, 2026. The company attributes the decision to large-scale data scraping and automated abuse through feeds.
For developers, this changes how bots connect to Reddit. The company recommends moving apps from Data API and PRAW to its Devvit platform.
Migration deadlines. Starting Oct 31, 2026, Reddit will stop accepting new applications for its public API. On Jan 12, 2027, the company will begin cutting off unregistered apps and users who have not responded to its outreach. Remaining public access will close in March.
Existing Data API apps can be registered through the Reddit for Developers form. It requires details of the account associated with the app and the developer's personal Reddit account. In its migration guide, Reddit explains how to replace streams with triggers: instead of monitoring continuously, the bot responds to events.
The guide also covers migrating scheduled tasks, API calls and data storage. Moderation has its own steps, and there are separate instructions for migrating with an AI assistant. According to Reddit's figures as of Sep 30, more than 14,000 apps and bots had registered, and DeltaBot, MagicEyeBot and RemindMeBot had completed the migration or were close to doing so.
Reddit has allocated $1 million to the migration program. Eligible apps will receive $1,000 and free hosting after successfully moving to Devvit. Applications must be submitted through the registration form by Nov 30, 2026.
A replacement for moderators. You can replace RSS notifications for your community with the Discord Relay app without writing code. On the app's page, click "+ Add to community", connect a Discord or Slack webhook and enable Modqueue Relay. According to Reddit Help's instructions dated Sep 30, setup takes 15–20 minutes.
Reddit offers no replacement for reading RSS feeds from communities the user does not moderate. Underpass App Company plans to close its r/StopTheMadnessSupport support forum after Nov 13 if Reddit sticks to its decision. The author follows that forum and roughly 20 other communities through RSS.
Access to Old Reddit will also narrow. Previously, any signed-in account could use it, but in the coming months access will be retained for users who visited Old Reddit in the past 6 months. Signed-in moderators will not have to meet the recent activity requirement.
