You can build a Meta VR app in the browser and test it on a headset. There is no need to install Android Studio locally.
Meta first described the Android template workflow on Sep 4. In its Sep 24 guide, the company added building with an agent and a path to publishing in the Store. On Sep 25, Replit added instructions for Meta devices and previews via QR code. The company has now announced that apps are available in Meta VR.
For Android apps. Start with the Meta VR template at replit.com/partners/meta. Replit Agent, an AI agent for building apps, already knows the SDK and input methods for Meta VR Glasses. Scanning the preview QR code opens the app on the device.
For browser-based VR scenes. The official iwsdk-replit-template uses WebXR to run a VR session in the browser. Follow the Sep 30 instructions in the Meta Quest repository to fork or remix the template in Replit. Dependencies install automatically, and the Run button or `npm run dev:runtime` command starts Vite on port 5000.
To run it on Quest, select Deploy in Replit, open the public HTTPS URL in Meta Quest Browser, and press Enter XR. The `npm run build` command builds the app into the `dist` folder; the static build is already configured.
To make changes without redeploying, the guide suggests connecting Quest via USB with developer mode and USB debugging enabled. After running `npm run dev:runtime`, run `adb reverse tcp:5000 tcp:5000` and open `http://localhost:5000` in Quest Browser.
Without a headset, the agent can test the scene using the built-in headless XR emulator. Through the CLI, it starts an XR session, moves the virtual headset and controllers, and clicks objects.
For Android apps, Meta describes the next step after previewing on a headset: publishing in the Store.
