Barclays rolls out Claude Code, targeting 50% of developers by the end of 2026
Barclays is expanding its use of Claude Code to develop software and modernize legacy systems.
Barclays expects 50% of the bank's developers to use Claude Code by the end of 2026. The AI agent helps engineers modernize legacy platforms and improve code quality.
From search to development. Since 2025, Barclays employees have used an internal assistant powered by Claude to find answers to customer questions. By Oct 1, 2026, 16,000 employees had adopted it and run more than a million search queries. The bank is now expanding its use of Claude to software development and operations.
Email processing. In the Global Markets division, Claude already helps process around 120,000 emails a day. The model categorizes inquiries, adds relevant information and routes requests for handling.
In 2027, Barclays plans to expand Claude Code adoption to most of its software engineers.
