Adobe Express

There are two things to consider: whether you need a finished layout rather than an image, and whether you have a foreign address and card. The editor and templates themselves work free from Russia; generation and subscriptions do not.

Of six common requests to Yandex, two are fulfilled for free, three hit a vendor refusal, and one leads to another product.

Who it is for. For those who need a complete post, cover, or presentation rather than a single image: choose a template, add your photos, click “Apply brand,” and the layout is recolored in your logo's colors. The free plan is enough for watermark-free posts, image background removal, video subtitles, and translating a layout into another language, all available from Russia without conditions.

Who else. For those who already have a Creative Cloud or Acrobat Studio subscription: Premium with 250 credits per month is included, according to vendor help dated 13.07.2026, so there is no reason to pay separately.

Who it is not for. For those who need a Russian interface: it is not among the 28 languages, and the help is not translated into Russian. And for those expecting generation from Russia: signing in to Firefly from Russian nodes returns a redirect, Russia appears in the editor settings as excluded for three AI features, and Adobe has not sold subscriptions in Russia since March 2022.

Generation here is not the result but a step. A layout is assembled from a template, while the neural network edits, recolors, translates, and reproduces it in multiple formats, and each task consumes a credit from the shared pool.

Five entry points. The home screen has five cards: new design, upload your own, edit photos, create a video, and an AI assistant marked “beta.” The assistant appeared on 28.10.2025 and works as a separate mode: switch to it, describe in words what to change in the layout, then switch back to the regular tools. According to vendor help dated 20.08.2026, the beta is open on desktop to free and paid accounts; its languages are English, French, German, Japanese, Hindi, and Portuguese.

Layout and brand. Inside the editor, each page has one panel for the whole layout at once: resize it for another social network, animate every element, replace images in one go, translate text into another language, and duplicate the layout from spreadsheet rows. The “Apply brand” button pulls colors, fonts, and logos from your brand kit; that is what the video above the card shows. Layout translation is available on the free plan; brand kits and format-based duplication require a subscription.

Quick actions without signing in. Remove a background, resize, crop, create a QR code, convert an image to JPG, PNG, or SVG right on the site, with files up to 40 MB and no account required. This is the most frequent specific request for the product: image background removal is searched 274 times a month, and it is free. You need to pay for video background removal, object erasing, and 4K export.

Video and presentations. Clip Maker cuts a long recording into clips, captions are added to video, characters are animated with your voice, and the “Generate presentation” wizard builds a presentation from a description, your PDFs, and a website link. Three things use no credits: text effects, presentations from descriptions, and video clipping. Video generation from a description is available only on desktop and costs 100 credits per second in 1080p.

Models. The vendor calls its own engine Firefly without a version number, while third-party engines are also connected: according to Adobe’s partner-model registry dated 03.09.2026, Express uses Gemini with three generations of Nano Banana, OpenAI’s image model, and FLUX1.1; the full list is in the FAQ. You cannot select a model manually; the assistant chooses one for the task, and third-party models are available only on paid plans and cost dozens of times more than Adobe’s own.

Russian. There is no Russian interface: the help article dated 01.09.2026 lists 28 languages, including Polish, Romanian, and Turkish, but not Russian or Ukrainian. The neural network accepts Russian prompts through machine translation into English, and the vendor warns that results may be unexpected. The “Translate” feature inside the product translates the layout itself into more than 45 languages, not the interface.

Three names. Adobe has two more products with Express in the name. Photoshop Express has edited photos on phones since 2009 and is translated into Russian. Adobe Express Photos erases and annotates screenshots on Windows; in the Microsoft Store it is labeled “formerly Photoshop Express,” and since June 2026 it installs automatically with an Acrobat update. Neither is related to this product’s layouts.

What the vendor itself shows. The video above the card is cut from an @AdobeExpress channel screencast dated 17.03.2026: the cursor clicks “Apply brand,” and a presentation slide changes from black and teal to beige with a serif typeface and logo. It shows a paid account and one product use case, presentations; the main entry shows the first frame of this section. We did not test Express ourselves for the task.

Three doors: browser, iPhone, and Android. There is no desktop app, and the editor itself opens from Russia; only generation and payment are blocked.

Step 1. If you need generation, switch your Russian IP address to a foreign one, American, Dutch, or any other. The site itself, sign-in window, and workspace respond from Russia just as they do from other countries: a test on 07.09.2026 from Moscow and Saint Petersburg nodes returned the same codes as from the US and Germany, and Adobe is absent from the blocked-domain registry. Generation fails: Firefly sign-in from both Russian nodes responds with a redirect while the control countries receive a working response; Firefly help dated 13.05.2026 says it is unavailable in Russia, Belarus, and China, and in the editor’s own settings, Russia is listed as an exception for three AI features, including the assistant and sound generation.

Step 2. Create an Adobe account; you must be older than 13. A subscription is not needed to sign in, but you cannot pay for it directly from Russia: Adobe has made no new sales in Russia since 04.03.2022, and the Russian version’s pricing pages have been reduced to a placeholder. A foreign card can be arranged using guide to paying for AI services from Russia; Adobe’s agreement prohibits bypassing access restrictions.

Step 3. Open adobe.com/express, choose a template or upload your own. You can remove a background, resize, and convert an image to another format before signing in, with files up to 40 MB. You cannot switch the interface to Russian; it is not on the list.

Apps. iPhone: App Store, iOS 18 required, build 30.8.0 dated 28.08.2026, and the app is available in the Russian storefront. Android: Google Play, Android 10 required, build 30.9.0 dated 25.08.2026, and the Russian storefront shows the listing. RuStore has a listing, but it was built by an aggregator, GoodApp is listed as the publisher, and build 30.7.0 dated 03.08.2026 lags behind Google Play.

No desktop app. The query “adobe express download” is searched 593 times a month and leads nowhere: according to the vendor’s help article dated 23.03.2026, Express has no desktop version; on a computer, it can be installed as a web app from Chrome or Edge, but not Safari or Firefox. There is no torrent, installer, or “Russian version” either. The Adobe Express Photos app for Windows, which has installed automatically with Acrobat since June 2026, is a different product.

Requirements and files. The browser requires Chrome 100, Edge 107, Safari 17, or Firefox 117 or newer, 4 GB of memory, and enabled hardware acceleration. Projects are stored in Adobe’s cloud; free accounts get 5 GB and 10 days of version history.

Steps checked on 07.09.2026 against the live adobe.com/express storefront, vendor help, access tests from Russian nodes and control countries, the blocked-domain registry export, and app-store listings; behavior after signing in from a Russian address was not checked

There is no way to measure it: no rankings exist for layout editors, and Adobe’s large figures refer to product bundles, not Express itself.

What this means. Express has no figure of its own: Adobe has never said how many people use it, verified against 2026 reports and transcripts. The 850 million count combines it with Acrobat, and the vendor itself notes that many of them use the free PDF reader. The only figure about the product itself is audience growth of more than twenty percent per quarter, without a baseline.

Storefronts. In the US App Store, it has 4.8 from 367 thousand ratings; in Russia, 4.9 from 7.7 thousand. In Google Play, the same package with the same number of reviews gets 4.6 in the US storefront and 4.2 in the Russian one; Google has one ratings counter for all countries, but each storefront has its own average score, 4.5 in Germany. Its larger namesake is more prominent: Photoshop Express has 100 thousand ratings in the Russian App Store, 13 times more.

Demand and press. “Adobe express” is searched 4,866 times a month, “adob express” in Cyrillic 808 times, which is 2.6 times more than Microsoft Designer. Yet there are no Russian-language product reviews on either Habr or vc.ru; the only inside look was published by Unisender on 01.11.2025. TechRadar’s 4.5 out of 5 review predates the AI assistant. Its place among design tools is shown below the card title; the full tool ranking is on the main page.

The editor is free indefinitely; Premium costs $9,99 a month, and the price has not changed since April 2022. The subscription did not get more expensive; the free plan did: the vendor removed the generation count from its pages.

Free. Templates, image background removal, captions, layout translation, PDF and PNG export, and commercial use are included with the free plan, which has no watermark; premium templates are marked with a crown. The free plan gets a daily generation allowance, but the vendor does not publish the number. Snapshots of the plans page from March and September 2024 said "25 credits per month"; the line was gone in the March 2026 snapshot.

Premium. $9,99 a month with no annual commitment, according to the vendor's pricing catalog on 09.07.2026; the first 30 days are free as a trial. The $99,99 annual plan exists only as an in-app purchase for phones, not on the website. Paid plans include 250 credits a month, brand kits, resize variations, 4K export, video background removal, and third-party models. Firefly Pro for $19,99 includes the same Premium plan, 4,000 credits instead of 250, and Photoshop in the browser. A team seat costs $7,99 a month when billed annually, with a two-seat minimum.

Credits. A standard Firefly image costs 1 credit; third-party models cost more: Nano Banana 10, Nano Banana Pro 40, GPT Image 60. A second of 1080p video costs 100 credits, so a month of Premium covers two and a half seconds at the best quality, twelve and a half at 540p, which is why video is sold through separate Firefly Pro. Unused credits do not carry over to the next month, and generation stops after reaching zero until the reset. All according to the credit help page dated 09.03.2026.

Where Premium is already included. It is included in Creative Cloud Standard and Pro, most single-app subscriptions, and every Acrobat Studio subscription. Only someone with no Adobe subscription at all pays separately for Express.

Paying from Russia. Adobe has made no new sales in Russia since 04.03.2022, yet the vendor's pricing catalog returns a ruble price for requests from Russia: 785,68 ₽ a month for Premium. The storefront remains; checkout does not. The Russian App Store shows in-app purchases of 899 ₽ a month and 8 990 ₽ a year, alongside prices from different Apple product tiers, from 699 ₽ a month and from 3 990 ₽ a year; whether a payment with a ruble card goes through cannot be verified externally. The resellers sell not Express but the entire Creative Cloud for 2 590 ₽ a month at prices from 22.08.2026; the options are described in the guide to paying for AI services from Russia.

Hack. The queries "adobe express hack" and "download premium" together get more than 120 searches a month. Premium lives in the Adobe account, and credits are counted by the server; that is how the product works, not a verified test, so a downloaded build of the paid plan is not worth expecting anything from. "12 months of Premium" keys on classified sites are activated on the Adobe website, and sellers themselves specify a limit of two codes per account.

Refund. Fourteen days for a full refund; after that, money is not refunded, and the subscription remains active until the end of the paid month. The early-cancellation fee of half the remaining balance, over which Adobe was sued by the US Department of Justice, applies to annual contracts; monthly Premium has none.

Three questions: whose files and images are they, do neural networks train on them, and what happened to the subscription lawsuit.

Whose files. Rights to your content remain yours; Adobe does not claim them, as stated in the terms dated 10.03.2025. The vendor takes a license to copy and display your cloud files only so the service can work, and separately promises not to use it for its own advertising. Commercial use of the output is allowed on the free plan too.

Training. The contract explicitly prohibits training generative models on your content, with two exceptions: material you submitted for sale in Adobe Stock and material you specifically asked it to use. The ban appeared after the June 2024 backlash: on 06.06.2024 Adobe explained that it does not train models on user files; on 06.10.2024 it acknowledged that it should have rewritten the terms earlier, and did so. Two edges remain. Generation prompts and results are reviewed automatically and by people for abuse filtering, and beta features allow human review of content by default; the AI assistant is a beta feature.

Whose images. The vendor explains its "safe for commercial use" promise in Firefly help dated 05.13.2026: its own models are trained on Adobe Stock, open licenses, and the public domain. The promise does not apply to models from Google, OpenAI, and Black Forest Labs; the partner-model registry puts the choice on you. Adobe promises legal protection only to the enterprise plan, and advises consulting a lawyer on copyright questions. Some exports with Firefly results receive a Content Credentials label, an electronic "made with AI" tag, and rules dated 05.15.2026 prohibit removing it.

Subscription lawsuit. On 06.17.2024, the US Department of Justice, acting on an FTC referral, sued Adobe over a hidden early-cancellation fee of half the remaining contract balance and a confusing cancellation process. On 03.13.2026, the parties settled: a $75 million fine and $75 million in services to customers, plus an obligation to show the cancellation fee before purchase and provide simple cancellation. Express is not named in the complaint, but its cancellation rules are shared with Adobe's other subscriptions.

Terms and data. For readers outside North America, the contracting party is Adobe's Irish company, Irish law applies, and disputes go to the London Court of International Arbitration. Accounts can be created from age 13, while before uploading a file to quick actions, the site asks you to confirm that you are 18. The contract prohibits bypassing access restrictions and makes you responsible for checking whether the service is available in your country.

The choice is not about who makes prettier images, but what to use to create a post from Russia: with a foreign address and dollars, or in rubles with a Russian interface.

Canva. The genre benchmark against which everyone compares the product: Google suggestions yield a whole cluster of «adobe express vs canva», and a review from 31.08.2026 ranks Canva higher for breadth and teams, while praising the product for its clean interface, layered PDF export, and generation. By scale, Canva is roughly ten times larger, with 3,5 million ratings in the US App Store versus 367 thousand. For readers from Russia, there is no choice: according to the press, Canva closed access from Russia in 2022, and it is absent from the Russian App Store, though it has a Russian interface. The two neighbors fail Russian readers in opposite ways.

SUPA. Russian post builder from Mytishchi: a free plan with 10 AI credits per month, Premium at 415 ₽ per month when paid annually or 990 ₽ month to month with 500 credits, a published course, image generation for 1 credit, background removal for 1, and an advanced model for 6. Rubles, Cyrillic, and a working checkout versus Adobe's generation, brand kits, and ecosystem, which are unavailable from Russia. Prices captured from the pricing page on 07.09.2026; wallets cannot be compared by number, as the services use different units.

Two more. Flyvi promises 60 thousand templates with Cyrillic, a free plan with 5 AI tokens, and Pro for 599 ₽ per month according to its pricing page on 07.09.2026. If you need an image rather than a layout, Shedevrum from Yandex generates in Russian for free and without a foreign address, but you will need to assemble a post from it elsewhere. The product's own engine appears as a separate entry in the catalog, Adobe Firefly, and from Russia gives the same redirect response.

Over ten years, Adobe Spark, a free post builder, became Creative Cloud Express, then Adobe Express, gained Firefly and credits, weathered the terms controversy and subscription lawsuit, and in 2025 added a conversational assistant.
