- Launched on 17.07.2025: OpenAI combined the Operator browser, deep research, and chat into one mode. The agent runs on its own virtual computer with a visual and text browser, terminal, and connectors to Gmail, GitHub, and other services (TechCrunch 17.07.2025, OpenAI).
- The rollout was limited to paid plans: Pro received access immediately on 17-18.07.2025, followed by Plus and Team in the following days; OpenAI help documentation listed limits of about 400 messages per month on Pro and 40 on Plus (TechCrunch 17.07.2025, help.openai.com).
- On 09.07.2026, OpenAI released ChatGPT Work — an agentic mode alongside chat and Codex: it connects Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Salesforce, and dozens of other tools, keeps a task running for hours, and delivers finished files; included in Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise at no extra cost (Bloomberg 09.07.2026).
- In early August 2026, an OpenAI help notice stated that ChatGPT agent was no longer available, with multistep tasks directed to ChatGPT Work and the cloud browser; that same summer, the standalone Atlas browser was also phased out, closing on 09.08.2026 (help.openai.com, August 2026 reviews).
