There are two things to consider: where you talk and whether you are ready to pay with a foreign card for the full voice set.

The app handles half the requests but not the other half: free Pro, live voice changing on a phone, and a Minecraft mod are not what it is for.

Who it is for. For people who play and talk by voice on a Windows or macOS computer and want to sound different: pranking friends, a streamer meme, a character voice in a role-playing game. The app sits between the headset and any game or call, and the free version lets you try it without a card.

Who else. For people whose voice in chat gets in the way rather than helps. Tech.eu wrote in December 2024 after speaking with Voicemod management that some women change their voices to avoid being harassed in game chat, and the company did not expect this.

Who it is not for. For people who want to speak in a specific person's voice: the vendor prohibits cloning. For those expecting a clean AI voice in Russian, because the models were trained on English-speaking actors. And for those planning to pay with a Russian card or use Linux.

Suitable: section 3 takes you from download to your first in-game voice. Choose between it and free Clownfish, then the decision point is in section 7.

Three layers: ready-made voices, a soundboard with memes, and a builder for your own voice, with one virtual microphone beneath them all.

Virtual microphone. After installation, the system gets a device called "Voicemod Virtual Microphone." Select it instead of the regular microphone in Discord, Zoom, TeamSpeak, or game settings, and the person you are talking to hears the modified voice. The vendor promises latency in milliseconds and processor-based processing so it does not take the graphics card away from the game, but does not publish latency figures.

Ready-made voices. Help dated 04.09.2026 says "250+ voices," while the site dated 06.09.2026 says "200+." Some are simple filters such as pitch shifting, while others are AI voices that reshape speech completely: anime characters, a soldier's radio, a narrator, a robot. Without a subscription, there is exactly one AI voice in the daily rotation (help, 27.08.2026).

Community voices. Users upload their own voices to a shared library, where the vendor lists 300 thousand of them on the product page. The addition is also in its words: one and a half thousand voices per week.

Soundboard. Sounds and memes sit as tiles on hotkeys and play into chat over the voice. You can record your own from any source, including a game, up to eight minutes long, while instant replay rolls back the last 30 seconds. The vendor lists 800 thousand sounds in the shared library on the soundboard page; the free plan has one soundboard.

Your own voice. Voicelab builds a voice from nodes: character, helmet or mask, environment, effects. Since 25.07.2025, this is the second version of the builder, where story modules are selected instead of sliders. Voicelab is Pro-only, and since the same version the vendor keeps saved voices in the cloud.

What was added in summer 2026. Persona, a set of characters with gender and age controls, was shown on the vendor's channel on 07.08.2026. Wheel, a radial menu over a game for switching voices and sounds without minimizing the window, was released in videos on 06.08 and 10.08.2026. The phone app works as a remote control for the desktop app and as a separate soundboard.

In Russian. The vendor is candid: data for AI voices was recorded with English-speaking actors, English gives the best result, other languages "may work," and the model "may have difficulties" with some of them (help, 04.09.2026). Simple filters do not depend on language.

Interface. Russian used to be in the app: in the second-generation changelog, the vendor fixed a bug where "Russian texts display incorrectly," but there is no confirmation for the current V3. The site is available in English and eight other languages; help is only in English and Japanese.

What the vendor itself shows. In the Persona video, the host builds a voice in Voicelab and turns the controls; help contains frames of the voice catalog and soundboard, while the phone showcase shows the remote control and recording custom sounds. We have not run Voicemod for this task ourselves; figures come from the vendor's help and releases.

Installs on a computer in a few minutes; an account is needed immediately.

What you need. Windows 10 or 11 in 64-bit only, or macOS Ventura 13 and newer on Macs no older than 2017-2019 depending on the model. For AI voices, the processor must support AVX2, which the vendor translates as "processors before 2013 without AI." Linux is not officially supported and is on the roadmap with a "may be canceled" note.

Step 1. Download the app from voicemod.net, the button leads to your account. You can sign in with Google, Discord, Twitch, Apple, or email; the app does not launch without signing in. The site and account open directly from a Russian IP address, checked 06.09.2026 from Moscow and St. Petersburg nodes.

Step 2. In the app, select your actual microphone and headphones, then set "Voicemod Virtual Microphone" as the input device in the game or messenger. In Discord, the vendor advises disabling Krisp noise suppression, otherwise it conflicts with the app.

Step 3. Choose a voice in the Voicebox section, turn on "hear yourself," and check how you sound. Assign soundboard sounds to keys.

Where you talk. The app does not depend on the platform; the platform depends on the country. Discord, Voicemod's main stage, has been restricted in Russia since 08.10.2024, while calls in Telegram and WhatsApp have been partially restricted since 13.08.2025. In-game voice chats, TeamSpeak, Zoom, and Google Meet remain; the vendor has pages for each of them.

Community sounds. The tuna.voicemod.net catalog site for user sounds was added to the registry of blocked domains, and the Moscow test node did not open it in six of seven runs. The service address through which the same sounds are pulled into the app responds from Moscow and is not listed in the registry, so the catalog will not open in a browser but most likely works in the app.

Consoles and phone. Closed platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, and phones do not give apps system-level access to the microphone, the vendor wrote in its 18.07.2024 release, so for consoles it sells a Voicemod Key box for $56,90 with a month of Pro included. It connects between the headset, phone, and console. Russia is not among the 13 delivery countries. The phone app does not change live voice, as the vendor writes in its description.

Scale figures here come only from the vendor itself, and there are no benchmarks or quality measurements for voice changing.

Downloads. The vendor cited 25,3 million downloads in August 2021, 40 million from November 2021 through the end of 2023, and 72 million in June 2025. The same "40 million" figure appeared in releases for three years.

Active audience. The founder named it once: 3,3 million people per month with 40 million downloads, meaning every twelfth downloader became a regular user (TechCrunch, 24.02.2023). Since then, releases only say "millions."

Quality. The vendor does not publish latency in milliseconds; we found no independent 2025-2026 tests measuring latency and processor load, while search results for such queries are occupied by competitor ads. The only verifiable measurement here: what you get free and what gets locked.

Stores. App Store shows 4,7 from 19,9 thousand ratings in the US and 4,5 from 160 in the Russian storefront; Google Play shows 3,9 in the US storefront and 3,0 in the Russian one with 21,2 thousand reviews and 5 million installs (06.09.2026). Trustpilot shows 1,8 out of 5 from 442 reviews as of 22.02.2026; the platform does not give the bot anything newer.

Demand in Russia. "Voicemod" is searched 53 thousand times a month, "voismod" another 13 thousand, while the general query "voice changer" gets 21 thousand, with free Clownfish in its tail (Wordstat, 06.09.2026). Russian videos about the app get hundreds of thousands of views, the peak came in 2023, and guides are still published in 2026. Voicemod's place among voice and music tools in our catalog is shown below the card title, while the full tool ranking is on the main page.

The vendor shows prices only inside the app, so those below are taken from App Store in-app purchases, while the ruble storefront exists only for reference.

Free. A set of voices that changes every day, with exactly one AI voice in it; one soundboard with several sounds; Clean Mic forever; and some themed packs. Voicelab is locked, so you cannot build your own voice without a subscription. The vendor does not describe watermarks or ads in the free version.

Pro. Week $3,99, month $6,99, quarter $17,95, year $29,90. Includes all voices, including future ones, unlimited soundboards, Voicelab, and cloud storage for your own voices. You cannot change plans within a subscription; only cancel and buy again after the term ends.

Forever. A lifetime license in the storefront costs $54,99 at a full price of $109,99, while promotional “60% off” offers at $44 use the same full price. Voicemod’s discount is not seasonal but a permanent storefront setting. One Trustpilot review dated 04.01.2026 mistook that hundred dollars for the price of a single voice.

Separately. Themed voice and soundboard packs such as Batman or World of Tanks are sold separately for $1–9,99 and are not included in Pro. The Voicemod Key box for consoles costs $56,90 discounted from $59,90 and includes one month of Pro. In summer 2025, the same box sold for $39,99; the discount shrank from one-third to 5 % over a year.

Paying from Russia. There are no Russian payment methods on the list, Paddle checkout rejects Moscow and St. Petersburg addresses, and Google Play payments in Russia have been disabled since 10.03.2022. Working options: a foreign card, an intermediary charging two to three times more according to its own price lists, or a Voicemod coupon through the Razer Gold wallet, which accepts cryptocurrency. Get a refund. 30 days after a computer purchase and 14 days after a phone purchase; refunds are handled not by Voicemod but by the payment provider. Some reviews praise a refund within a day, while others complain that support stays silent.

Four questions: where your voice goes, whose voices are in the app, what happens with anti-cheat systems, and what buyers complain about.

Where your voice goes. Nowhere, according to the policy dated 11.06.2025: processing happens on your device, and the vendor says it does not listen to conversations or recordings used to create voices. Accounts, purchases, and uploaded sounds are stored with Google and AWS; the agreement is governed by Spanish law with courts in Valencia, and use is allowed from age 16.

Whose voices. AI voices are recorded with paid actors, and on 20.03.2024 Voicemod became the first company Fairly Trained certified for speech and singing models; the certificate was issued to the company as a whole, not an individual model. The app does not allow cloning someone else’s voice, as Chief Product and Technology Officer Alex Bordanova told Tech.eu directly in December 2024. Still, on the same day in June 2022, the press called the first AI voice, “The Narrator,” Morgan Freeman’s voice, while the vendor described it as “celebrity-inspired.”

Anti-cheat systems. The virtual microphone runs as a driver, and Riot’s Vanguard anti-cheat once prevented it from installing, causing Code 37 in Device Manager. The vendor says the latest Vanguard fixed it. Microsoft revoked the driver in Windows 11 test builds, for which a separate version was released. We found no confirmed player bans for the app.

What buyers complain about. Trustpilot has a 1,8 out of 5 from 442 reviews as of 22.02.2026. Two recurring themes: “almost everything free is behind a wall,” with voice rotation, and the Voicemod Key box, which buyers were charged for in December 2025 but did not receive by the holiday. There are no Voicemod data breaches in the Have I Been Pwned registry as of 06.09.2026.

The choice comes down to whether you need someone else’s entire voice or whether a filter over your own is enough.

Different mechanics. Clownfish is free, works at the Windows audio level, and changes voices with simple effects; it has no AI voices. Voicemod transforms speech into another character but sells the full set of such voices through a subscription. Three spellings of the Clownfish query together get 1 859 searches a month (Wordstat, 06.09.2026), so people know the free neighbor.

Different cost of silence. We do not have a page for Clownfish, and we have not collected data on its updates. Voicemod has a live pipeline: its apps were updated in late August 2026, its help center is edited daily, but its blog and newsroom have stood still since 18.07.2024.

Who else is nearby. 2026 roundups mention MorphVOX Pro without AI and Voice.ai with celebrity voices alongside it, while ElevenLabs operates in a different league: voiceover and speech synthesis, not a live microphone in a game. All these roundups are written by competitors themselves, so we do not take ratings from them.
