Muse launched faster than ChatGPT: 1.8 million downloads in its first 12 days

In its first 12 days, Muse reached 1,8 mln iOS downloads in the US and Canada, versus 1,3 mln for ChatGPT at the same point (Appfigures estimates, 21.09). Every day, 642 thousand people use the app in the US, compared with 231 thousand for ChatGPT at launch.

The mobile-launch record was broken not by the product, but by its audience. 95% of Muse users also use Facebook, and 63% use Instagram.

The measurement is disputed. Sensor Tower and data.ai show a different picture (Yahoo Tech, 21.09). Muse averaged 73 thousand downloads per day over its first 10 days, while ChatGPT in 2023 averaged 87 thousand over eight days. On Google Play, Muse ranks only 338th in the Productivity category.

Revenue did not take off. In its first 11 days, Muse generated $27 thousand net, while Grok Bot made $175 thousand over the same period (Appfigures blog, 20.09).

Muse was previously available on phones, at muse.ai, and in WhatsApp chats. On 17 September, Meta released a Mac version: the free .dmg downloads directly from the site, bypassing the Mac App Store. On a computer, Muse can access Files, Messages, Calendar, Notes, and Mail, with permission granted separately for each item.

The free plan comes with a limit that refreshes automatically. Power costs $20 per month and includes 500 mln tokens per week; Maximum costs $100 and includes 3 bln. It requires a Meta account, age 18, a payment method, and a region where Muse is available: for now, that is only the US.

Meta calls subscriptions a limited test and promises support for its AI glasses “soon”.
