Paid AI subscriptions challenged in court: lawsuit filed by 4 people
On September 18, the Northern District of California docketed a class-action lawsuit against Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google. Four plaintiffs are seeking a jury trial. They allege the companies coordinated to slow AI development and reduce the value of paid subscriptions.
On September 12, Dario Amodei proposed coordinating AI safety standards and the pace of development. On September 18, the plaintiffs linked that public coordination to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Gemini subscriptions.
The pace has not stopped. On September 22, Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, its first release after the call for pacing. The model's API costs $4 per 1 million input tokens and $20 per 1 million output tokens.
The plaintiffs are seeking a jury trial.
