AI agents hit mainstream demand: Meta Muse overtook ChatGPT in two weeks
On September 22, Meta Muse ranked above ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok in the US App Store's free-app chart. Meta launched the AI agent on September 8 for iOS, Android, and the muse.ai website.
In 2023, AutoGPT gained 100 thousand stars over months, but there were almost no finished products. On September 21, Apptopia estimated Muse's US audience at 642 thousand daily mobile users, versus 231 thousand for ChatGPT at a comparable early stage.
The task does not wait. Muse keeps working in the background after the app is closed and handles multistep tasks through the web and connected apps. Free access is limited by a cap: once it is reached, Meta offers users the choice of waiting for a refresh or subscribing.
In its first 12 days, Muse received an estimated 1.8 million iOS downloads in the US and Canada, versus 1.3 million for ChatGPT, though the launches covered different sets of platforms.
