Avatar video replies join the API: Gemini 3.8 Live delivers 24 FPS
On Sep 25, Gemini 3.8 Live became GA in Gemini Enterprise and began delivering synchronized avatar video at 24 FPS. Avatar output costs $1 per 1 million tokens in a non-global region.
Previously, Gemini Live 2.5 Flash supported audio but did not render an avatar. Gemini 3.8 Live added video responses, so a voice agent can now reply with face and voice in a single stream.
In place of an IVR menu. In Google's demo, the agent takes voice and video of damage, while an ADK team checks the policy, applies rules, and assembles a package for the appraiser in the background.
A console session. In Gemini Enterprise, open Agent Platform, select Studio and Stream realtime, enable Live Avatar and voice, then select Start Session. For the API, the session connects to `gemini-3.8-live` with `response_modalities: ["VIDEO"]`.
Google's custom avatar is currently available only to select enterprise customers.
