Antigravity

The choice rests on two things: how much control you need and where you sign in from.

Who it is for. For those who want to try an agent-style workflow for free: state a task in words, the agent writes code and brings a report with a browser recording. Gemini 3.1 Pro and Claude 4.6 models are already inside, no personal keys needed. It also suits those handling several tasks at once, since the Agent Manager panel runs agents in parallel.

Who it is not for. For those signing in from Russia unprepared: access checks the Google account region, and changing a single IP address does not help. Also for those who need predictable limits. Google cut preview quotas four times over the winter without warning, and a practitioner test made it to the press.

Need to work without the Google cloud. Antigravity is closed: its source code is not published, there is no local version, and interactions improve Google's models by default. Open alternatives Cline and OpenCode work with their own keys and local models.

If it suits you, section 3 will show installation and Russia-specific steps. The choice against Cursor is covered in section 7.

The core idea: the agent here is not a chat in the sidebar, but a worker with its own workspace.

Agent Manager. A separate panel where you assign tasks and watch several agents at once. Each agent has its own workspace, with inboxes collected into one list: in the official demo, three agents simultaneously handle spaceflight booking, exactly the scene in the hero video above.

Evidence-based work. The agent does not just deliver code: the task includes a report artifact with a plan, list of changes, tests, and a browser recording. The agent opens the browser itself, clicks through the built app, and shows that it works.

Editor inside. It is still a familiar environment based on VS Code: tabs, terminal, Tab autocomplete, and inline commands. Those used to a regular editor can work as before and add agents as they gain confidence.

Control from your phone. Since version 2.9.1 (20.08.2026), agent sessions on your machine are visible from any browser: Remote Control sends a notification when an agent has finished or is waiting for an answer.

The product's home is a standalone app for macOS, Windows, and Linux. In August 2026, extensions for other editors were added.

There is a path from Russia, but it is longer than usual. The installer downloads freely, but sign-in checks the Google account region: Russia is on the unsupported list, and the site responds "not available in your location". Changing a Russian IP address to a foreign one is necessary, but that alone is not enough. Practitioners recommend a Google account created in a foreign region with a payment profile. Do not want the hassle - open Cline and OpenCode work without geo checks, with doors in section 1.

How to install

Step 1. Download the app from the page antigravity.google/download for your system.

Step 2. Sign in with a Google account. From Russia, use an account from a foreign region; the block above explains why.

Step 3. Create a project, add a folder with code using the Add Folder button, and state the first task in words. The agent will offer two modes: Local Mode edits files directly in the folder, New Worktree Mode works in a separate copy.

Other editor. The VS Code extension has already left preview; versions for Visual Studio, JetBrains, and Zed are still in preview (21.08.2026). There is a CLI for terminal fans and an SDK for agent developers.

A measurement of an agent is always a measurement of an "agent + model" pair, and Antigravity pairs are not yet in benchmarks.

On the board. In our agent ranking, Antigravity stands by demand measurement at index_, while the AA score column carries an honest dash: neither the AA Coding Agent Index nor Terminal-Bench has published a pair with it (checked 23.08.2026).

Engine reference. The selected model sets the quality ceiling, and Gemini 3.1 Pro and Claude Opus 4.6 are inside, both in the top tier of coding models. Independent measurements have not yet shown how the agent framework uses that ceiling.

Antigravity has no separate price tag: you pay for a Google AI subscription, as with Gemini.

Free entry. The $0 plan provides unlimited autocomplete and weekly limits on agent work. The vendor describes the exact number of requests inside as "basic" without numbers, and it is worth knowing that before putting a workflow on preview.

Paid tiers. The Google AI Pro subscription costs $19.99 per month, with Ultra in two options: $100 for fivefold limits and $200 for twentyfold limits. Google reduced the price of the higher Ultra from $250 at I/O on 19.05.2026. AI credits can be purchased beyond the limits.

Quotas are being cut. From December 2025 through March 2026, Google quietly cut preview limits four times, without an email or a changelog entry. Practitioners calculated: the $20 plan came to offer four times as much as free, instead of the previous thirty-three times. The protest reached the press on 12.03.2026.

Paying from Russia. Russian cards do not work with Google subscriptions. The usual options: a foreign card or an intermediary charging a fee. How to sign up is explained by payment guide.

Look at three things: where your data goes, what the agent is allowed to do, and how mature the product is.

Data trains Google by default. The terms of service explicitly say that interactions are used to improve Google products and models. You can turn this off in settings; deleting history requires emailing support. The product itself operates under Google Cloud preview rules, without the guarantees of a mature service.

Autonomy needs a leash. In December 2025, the agent in fast Turbo mode erased a user's entire disk: a delete command went through without confirmation and bypassed the trash. A standard lesson for the genre. Give your first tasks in a test folder and do not enable no-confirmation mode on an important project.

Other pages can command the agent. A week after launch, PromptArmor researchers showed that an instruction hidden in small type on a web page can make the agent leak data externally. Google initially called it intended behavior; no confirmed fix as of August 2026. Protection is the same as for any agent with a browser: do not keep unnecessary secrets in the project and read reports before accepting work.

The split is genre-defining, and Habr put it most precisely: Cursor remains an editor with a strong assistant inside; Antigravity builds an environment where agents carry out tasks.

Different center of gravity. Cursor was built around daily code writing: strong autocompletions, familiar editor, maturity. Antigravity targets a different scenario: you assign tasks to a fleet of agents and accept work from reports with evidence.

Different cost of risk. Both have a $0 tier, then Cursor costs from $20 per month, while Antigravity hides its price in a Google AI subscription from $19.99. The difference is predictability: it is Antigravity that carries the history of quiet quota cuts.

Who else is nearby. Claude Code lives in the terminal and excels through depth on Claude models. Jules, Google's other agent, runs in the cloud with no installation.

Open Cline and OpenCode eliminate the geography issue entirely: your own keys, any models, local execution.

The product is nine months old: a high-profile launch, a winter of quota and security scandals, then a summer turn toward enterprise subscriptions.
