You need to consider two things: whether you need an assistant for extended work and whether you are ready to prepare for access from Russia.

Who it is for. For people working with long documents, code, and text. Claude makes up facts less often when extracting them and maintains a requested tone longer; practitioners explain businesses moving from ChatGPT this way (Habr, 03/25/2026). Paid plans have a million-token context window, equivalent to several thick books in one conversation.

Who else. For people who want the year's strongest model in a regular chat. Fable 5.1 launched on September 1, 2026, and scored 66 points in the Artificial Analysis index at maximum effort, higher than any model the index measured. On Pro it is available for an extra charge in credits; on Max it is included in the limit for up to half the week.

Who it is not for. For people who want to sign in from Russia without preparation. Russia is not on the supported-country list, a number from another country may be required during registration, and Russian bank cards do not work. Also not for those who need images and video: Claude does not make them; ChatGPT and Gemini are stronger.

Who else it is not for. For people who count messages. The vendor does not publish fixed limits: there is a five-hour window plus a weekly cap, and practitioners cannot find a counter or warning before hitting the limit.

What vibecoding isStarting from scratch: how to set tasks for agents with no coding experience

Three layers: chat with Anthropic models, the Cowork agent in your folders, and an extension that clicks in the browser.

Chat. Questions, web search, analysis of uploaded files, voice mode, memory across conversations, and projects with a shared document base. You choose the model yourself: the free plan has Sonnet and Haiku, while paid plans also include Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 with a million-token context window. A long response arrives as an artifact, a separate window with a document, table, code, or interactive page.

Cowork. You name a goal and folder, and the agent reads files, makes a plan, and brings back a finished result: meeting notes, a presentation, or a table. It works on desktop; since July 7, 2026, it has been coming to web and mobile, where a session continues even when the laptop is closed. Included in Pro and above.

Claude in Chrome. The extension reads the open page, clicks, and fills out forms; by September 2026 it had left beta and can work without confirmation at every step. Available on paid plans; the vendor itself does not recommend it for banking, passwords, or medical data.

Research and connectors. Research mode on paid plans runs several searches in sequence, each building on the previous one, and compiles a detailed answer from many sources. Connectors to Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and any MCP server can be connected even on Free, while add-ons for Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are available on Pro and above.

What was actually done. In the official videos, the agent compiles a summary, task list, and presentation from a folder of meeting transcripts, while the Chrome extension works through slide comments and edits them in 119 steps. This site is written by the same Anthropic models, but through Claude Code, a coding agent on paid plans; we did not run the chat itself for this task, and the numbers come from official demos and others' tests.

You can use it from Russia, but with preparation: Russia is not on Anthropic's country list, so signing in requires three foreign things at once.

Step 1. Change your Russian IP address to a foreign one: US, Dutch, or any other from the list of supported countries. The service is officially unavailable in Russia, so you cannot get past the sign-in screen without this. Users warn that an address jumping between countries is the main reason for a ban, so stick to one country.

Step 2. Sign up at claude.ai by email or with a Google account. According to user reports, registration may require a phone number from a supported country; +7 is not accepted. The rule is simple: the country of the address, phone number, and card must match.

Step 3. Ask your first question in Russian and it will reply in Russian. Users describe the menus and settings in English; the vendor has not announced a Russian interface translation.

Apps. iPhone and iPad: App Store, iOS 18 required, and the store may require an account from a foreign region. Android: Google Play, package com.anthropic.claude; the listing is also visible in the Russian storefront (checked 09.05.2026). The macOS and Windows desktop app is downloaded from claude.com/download, and Cowork installs with it.

Claude ranks third among the world's chat assistants and is growing faster than any of them, but is barely visible in Russia.

Market share. According to Similarweb data in Momentic's roundup, in May 2026 Claude had 9.2% of global chat-assistant web visits and 952.6 million visits per month, versus 99.7 million a year earlier, a 9.5x increase. According to First Page Sage, as of September 1, 2026, its US share was 10.2%, versus 51.5% for ChatGPT and 27.6% for Gemini. The methodologies differ, but the picture is the same: third place.

App. On March 2, 2026, Claude Mobile had 11.3 million daily active users versus 250.5 million for ChatGPT (Similarweb, TechCrunch). The gap is more honest than any share: Claude has surpassed Perplexity and Copilot, but is far behind ChatGPT and Gemini.

Models. Fable 5.1 scored 66 points in the Artificial Analysis index on September 1, 2026, the index's highest reading, while Opus 5 holds 63. The measurement was taken at maximum effort, while chat defaults to medium. Both are available in regular chat on paid plans. The year's strongest model lives in the chat ranked third by audience.

Demand in Russia. "Claude AI" is searched 73 thousand times a month, "claude" 417 thousand times with Claude Code mixed in, and "Claude neural network" 22 thousand times (Wordstat, 09.05.2026). Yet in 2026 surveys about neural networks, Claude does not make the list of named services: according to OMI in March, Russians named Alice (71%), ChatGPT (42%), and GigaChat (38%), and VTsIOM's June survey also omitted it. Its place among the assistants in our catalog is shown below the card title, while the full tool ranking is on the main page.

The chat is free; you pay for limits and Cowork, and from Russia you will need a foreign card or an intermediary to pay.

Free entry. Free includes chat on Sonnet and Haiku with search, memory, and files; the full set is in the table below. Higher-end models, projects, and Cowork remain paid.

Pro. $20 per month or $17 with annual billing, meaning $200 upfront. It includes five times the limit, Opus 5, and Cowork, while Fable 5.1 on Pro requires extra credits at API prices.

Max. From $100 per month with five times the Pro limit. The option with twenty times the limit is listed without a price on the website; in the App Store it sells for $249.99.

Limits. The vendor does not publish message counts: there is a five-hour window, paid plans also have a weekly cap, and chat and Claude Code draw from one pool. User estimates put Free at 15–40 messages per window, Pro at about 45 short messages, and one 40-page PDF can use up a window in 5–8 turns.

Paying from Russia. Russian bank cards do not work for either the initial payment or renewal. The usual options are a foreign card in your own name, an intermediary charging 10–20% according to their own guides, a gift subscription, or another region's App Store. Users call ready-made accounts a direct reason for a ban. Details in the guide how to pay for AI services from Russia.

Teams. Team starts at $20 per seat per month with annual billing; Enterprise is the same $20 per seat plus usage at API prices. Since February 12, 2026, Enterprise can be bought on the website without calling sales.

Three questions: where your chats go, what gets an account banned, and when the model will refuse.

Data and training. Since August 28, 2025, Anthropic has trained models on private users' chats unless you turn this off in privacy settings. With consent, data is stored for up to five years; a deleted chat is erased from systems within 30 days, while incognito chats are never used for training. The company is American and data is processed outside Russia, so do not upload contracts or personal data here.

Bans. In the second half of 2025, Anthropic blocked 1.45 million accounts worldwide; of 52 thousand appeals, it approved 1.7 thousand, about 3% (Anthropic transparency report, updated 01.29.2026). For signing in from Russia, this is the main risk: users describe a wave of bans affecting accounts with Russian traces in spring 2026 and advise using one country for your address, card, and phone number.

Refusals and model switching. When asked about exploits, virology, or the workings of the models themselves, Fable 5.1 and Opus 5 switch the conversation to Opus; this is enabled by default and can be turned off with a setting. A larger precedent: on June 12, 2026, Anthropic removed Fable 5 from plans and brought it back on July 1. By August 2026, users called refusals one of the most common complaints.

Errors. In a separate article, the vendor acknowledges that Claude invents links and claims it sent an email that did not exist. Verify figures and quotes from its answers.

The choice is not "who is smarter," but "what do you do most often" and "how do you sign in from Russia."

Different workflows. ChatGPT remains the generalist: text, code, files, search, and images in one window, 900 million people per week. Claude excels at long documents, careful writing, and code, but does not make images or video. Users who pay for both split them this way: Claude for code and writing, ChatGPT for images and general tasks (Habr, 03.25.2026).

Context and models. On paid plans, Claude reads one million tokens at a time versus 128–400 thousand for ChatGPT. Fable 5.1 ranks first in the Artificial Analysis index, and Anthropic's own table places only GPT-5.6 Sol alongside it; Gemini is not there at all.

From Russia. Neither works directly: both require a foreign address and foreign payment. Claude Pro and ChatGPT Plus both cost $20, but ChatGPT has the cheaper $8 Go plan while Claude has no low-cost paid plan.

In three years, a chat with access in two countries has grown into an agent's workspace that works in folders and the browser, while models arrive here first with every generation.
