GitHub Copilot gets two more GPT-6 models: Sol and Luna now available to everyone
On September 22, GitHub made GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna generally available in GitHub Copilot. The company describes Sol as a balanced model for chat and AI-agent work, and Luna as the lightweight and least expensive model in the family for smaller tasks.

GitHub Copilot already offered GPT-5.6 Sol for complex work with large codebases, and GPT-5.6 Luna for smaller, faster tasks. Now GitHub is adding the next GPT-6 pair with the same workload split, but calls Sol a balanced model.
On October 19, GitHub plans to retire GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.4, recommending GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna instead.
