JetBrains agent waits for fewer clicks: Copilot 1.18.0 auto-approves low-risk calls
GitHub released Copilot for JetBrains 1.18.0 on September 22: in public preview, the agent now approves low-risk tool calls on its own. Risky calls still wait for a human decision. This version also lets you rewind the conversation and files to an edited message.
Low-risk actions now go through without a separate click.
Rewind the conversation. Previously, you had to untangle a failed move on top of files that had already been changed. Now you can rewrite an earlier message, and Copilot will roll both the dialogue and the files back to that point before sending the replacement.
Shared rules. Organizations and enterprises can give local and Copilot agent sessions shared skills and custom instructions. The Codex agent has gained Plan mode: you can review, edit, or approve the plan before implementation. Copilot sessions now also have persistent settings for individual tools on MCP servers.
Install in the IDE. Install GitHub Copilot through Settings → Plugins: find it in the Marketplace, click Install, restart the IDE, then sign in via Tools → GitHub Copilot → Login to GitHub. In JetBrains Gateway and remote development environments, Inline Chat and its entry points have been hidden.
In the coming months, GitHub will end support for JetBrains IDE 2025.1.x: 2025.2.x will become the minimum.
