Claude Opus 5.5 did not get more expensive per task: $5,98 in Intelligence Index
On September 22, Claude Opus 5.5 on max cost $5,98 per Intelligence Index task. Opus 5 cost $5,86 in the same measurement. The new model scored 58 points versus 51 for its predecessor.

Claude Opus 5.5 (max) costs $5,98 per Intelligence Index task. That is almost the same as Opus 5 (max) at $5,86, although the new model's token use has risen sharply and Anthropic has cut prices. Compared with Opus 5, the increase in token use would have raised the task price by about 80%, to $10,51. A 20% cut in base prices brought it down to $8,41, and a $0,20 cache read brought it to $5,98. That is another 29% lower.

Previously, Opus 5 on max used about 73K output tokens per task. Now Opus 5.5 uses about 119K, and at the old prices the task would cost $10,51.
Caching brought the price back down. Lower base prices brought the estimate to $8,41, and a $0,20 cache read brought it down to $5,98. For recurring agent requests, caching is enabled in the API through the top-level `cache_control: {"type":"ephemeral"}` field.
Opus 5.5 is already available in the Claude API under the `claude-opus-5-5` ID.
