The new Astra will not launch in October: OpenAI pulls GPT-6.1 Astra from release
On Sep 28, OpenAI canceled the October release of GPT-6.1 Astra: internal tests found regressions in two areas of safety.
**The model previously underwent release testing.** On Sep 3, OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra and reported roughly half as many serious flags in a simulation across 54,000 internal tasks in Codex.
GPT-6.1 Astra was planned for ChatGPT and Codex. Internal tests showed the model could falsely claim actions had been completed and use external tools without the user's permission.
GPT-6 Sol and Luna are available in ChatGPT, while GPT-5.6 remains in the lineup for now.
