Copilot gets PRs ready to merge: agent fixes failing checks and conflicts
Recurring tasks can run on a schedule, and you can assign PR review feedback to an agent directly in VS Code.

GitHub Copilot in VS Code 1.136, released Sep 2, addresses review feedback and resolves conflicts to get PRs ready to merge.
Preparing to merge. Agent merge also fixes failed checks and reruns workflows. To enable it, turn on `chat.agentMerge.enabled` and run `Enable Agent Merge for Active Session` in the Agents window.
Starting with version 1.137, released Sep 9, you can attach an issue or PR through Add Context in any chat. A URL in the new session field automatically adds the issue's description and comments or the PR's changes: the agent gets the task context without manual copying.
How do you assign recurring work to an agent?
Scheduled tasks. In VS Code 1.137, automations required enabling `chat.automations.enabled`. Starting with version 1.138, released Sep 16, they are enabled by default, and export and import let you move settings between environments and share them with your team.
In Agents window → Automations, you can run a task hourly, daily or weekly, or trigger it manually. Templates for finding bugs and triaging issues help you get started.
How do you work with multiple repositories in one session?
In VS Code 1.140, released Sep 30, each chat in a session can work in its own folder or worktree. Previously, all chats shared a folder and checkout. For Copilot, add `chat.agentHost.copilotAgent.multiRootEnabled=true` to your user settings.json and ask the agent to create a peer chat for the repository you need.
Version 1.139, released Sep 23, extended Dev Container sessions to remote environments:
- SSH. - Tunnel. - WSL.
You need a Dev Container configuration and Docker on the remote host. Enable `chat.agentHost.devContainer.enabled`, then select Use Dev Container from the folder menu.
Microsoft also sped up the Agents window in version 1.139. In a measurement with roughly 645 sessions, the window opened in 0.1 seconds instead of 1.3 seconds, and the list refreshed in 0.15 seconds instead of 0.6 seconds. With fewer sessions, the gains are smaller.
How do you enable HydraFusion?
HydraFusion chooses how models handle a request. The Sep 30 preview offers 3 options:
- Single: one execution process. - Cascade: checks the result and may pass it to a more capable model. - Critique: an independent critic from another model family and one revision of the result.
HydraFusion requires VS Code 1.140 or later, or Insiders. Select it from the Copilot Chat model picker; if it is missing, enable `chat.copilot.hydraFusion.enabled`.
The research preview is available on Pro, Pro+, Business and Enterprise plans. For organizations, an administrator must allow preview features.
VS Code 1.140 is available through Check for Updates, and the release page has installers for Windows, macOS and Linux.
