Campfire ported to Rust with virtually no manual work: DHH spent under $10 in tokens
On Sep 29, DHH estimated that migrating Campfire to Rust cost less than $10 in tokens. The beta is already running, and the conversion took a few hours and nearly one prompt, followed by a few refinement requests.

This migration cost less than $10 in tokens through my personal Max 20x subscription. It took a few hours and nearly one prompt, then a few more requests for refinement. Whatever you think of this reality, you would be better off getting used to it quickly.

DHH calls the Rust code six times more verbose than before and “ugly as sin,” but he never had to look at it himself. For him, a working beta outweighed a clean rewrite.
The plan changes the math. Individual Claude Max 20x costs $200 per month, sessions reset every 5 hours, and there is a weekly limit. Claude Code connects through the subscription with the same credentials, while the `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` variable switches usage to API billing.
Campfire is already running in beta on the rewritten Rust code.
