Projects in Claude Code became a task dispatcher: each task goes to a separate thread on its own branch
Anthropic moved Projects in Claude Code into a coordinator mode: per the company's blog post from Sep 17, 2026, a project takes on tasks and launches a separate thread for each one. For now it's a public beta on the Pro plan at $17 a month and on Max, and it's not available on Team or Enterprise.

Most of my work in Claude Code now runs through Projects.

Projects in Claude Code used to be a folder: instructions, files, and a single chat where you did the work yourself. Now a project becomes a coordinator conversation. It launches a separate thread, a cloud session on its own branch, for each task. Threads run in parallel, and the Overview tab shows which are ready for review, which are waiting for a reply, and which are finished.
How to start. In the claude.ai/code sidebar or the Code tab on desktop, choose Projects, then New project, and enter a name: that's the only required field. A project with code needs a repository on github.com, push access to GitHub, and the Claude GitHub App installed on that repository. A token from /web-setup alone isn't enough.
Locally. A thread that runs on your own machine, with a local database, emulator, or internal API, requires Claude Code v2.1.280 or newer and a connection through Remote Control. In the terminal, that's the claude remote-control command in the right folder. In the project message, pick “Work locally” from the “+” menu.
Limits. Projects use up Pro and Max plan limits faster than a regular session: each thread is a full session, plus the coordinating conversation and the threads that watch pull requests. Beyond the limit, a project runs only with usage credits turned on, and a thread can't turn them on by itself. New threads are capped at 200 per day across all projects.
Where it's not available yet. Projects are available in claude.ai/code, the desktop app, and the mobile app. They're not in the terminal CLI, VS Code, or JetBrains, nor through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Agent Platform, or Microsoft Foundry. A project belongs to one user, and neither the project nor a thread can be shared.
Projects isn't open on Team and Enterprise yet, and Anthropic's docs give no rollout timeline.
